District
No 2 schools have performed well on the Oregon Report Card
ratings; Oakdale Heights an Lyle Elementary Schools were both
rated “exceptional” and Whitworth Elementary was rated “strong.”
We are very proud of our staff of dedicated and talented teachers,
educational assistants, and support personnel. All of
our elementary teachers and most of our secondary teachers
are considered “highly qualified” according to the new federal
guidelines of “No Child Left Behind.” The Dallas
community has always been supportive of our sports and extra
curricular opportunities for students. Recently, the
local community raised $224,000 to support these programs
when State budget cuts forced the District to withdraw funding.
Pre-School
The
Dallas community offers a variety of private preschool and
kindergarten programs.
K-12
Public Schools
Development
of basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics receive the
greatest emphasis. The Dallas School District is a member of a
consortium of public schools, working with Western Oregon University
(WOU) on education program development. The Dallas School
District is a recognized leader in developing and implementing new
state standards.
Career
planning is emphasized with students. This includes those
seeking professional careers as well as those entering the job
market after graduation. College preparatory classes and
vocational training classes are provided to meet the career plans of
all students. Through the college prep program, it is possible
for a Dallas high senior to obtain several hours of college credit.
The new technical center at the high school, which is shared with
five other districts and Chemeketa Community College, can ensure
students a successful career in computers.
